Washington, DC – Today, Making Change at Walmart released a new television ad highlighting the recent discovery of Walmart holding a food drive for its own workers. The ad, “Decent Pay, No Handouts” will run in Washington, DC and Bentonville, AR, home to Walmart’s headquarters, beginning this weekend.

“Walmart workers are a family and we stick together. And the fact that workers are having to hold a food drive for themselves while working for a company that made $17 billion last year, because they pay us poverty wages says it all, “ said Martha Sellers a Walmart worker from Los Angeles, CA. “The majority of Walmart workers make less than $25,000 year, while the six Walton heirs who own the company are worth more than 42% of Americans combined. Walmart workers would not have to have food drives if Walmart just paid us a decent wage.”

Yesterday, the group Organization United for Respect at Walmart (OUR Walmart), announced that 1500 protests are scheduled across the country on Black Friday, in what is said to be the largest mobilization of working families in American history. Workers and their supporters are calling for an end to illegal retaliation, and for Walmart to publicly commit to improving labor standards, such as providing workers with more full time work and wage of $25,000 a year. As the country’s largest retailer and employer, Walmart makes more than $17 billion in profits, with the wealth of the Walton family totaling over $144.7 billion – equal to that of 42% of Americans.

Why don’t we all send the CEO a Thanksgiving card and wish him and his family a wonderful sinner with his loved ones. They could be sent to his office via registered mail to ensure they are all received and noticed!!! If 1,300,000 associates sent a card he would really take notice!

It would probably be better if 1,300,000 workers went on strike and brought Walmart’s operations to a halt. Not only would the management take notice, the whole nation would.
