Workers, Community Escalate Calls on Walmart to Reinstate Illegally Fired Workers During Week of National Actions

Last week, Walmart workers joined by community members from throughout the nation escalated its calls on Walmart to reinstate the illegally fired Walmart employees who went on a legally protected unfair labor practice strike to call on Walmart to end the illegal violation of employee’s labor rights and freedom of speech.

In Southern California, more than 100 protestors demonstrated in front of the Walmart store in Lakewood, California, while a delegation of clergy members and illegally fired Walmart workers talked to management at that store calling on them to reinstate Walmart employees who were unfairly fired for going on strike. All across the US, similar actions took place during the week including New York, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Washington DC, Sacramento, and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Last month, members of the worker-led Organization United for Respect at Walmart (OUR Walmart) held a nationwide strike and “Ride for Respect” caravan protesting Walmart’s unfair labor practices (ULP), which took them on a bus ride to Walmart’s headquarters in Arkansas, leading up to Walmart’s June annual shareholder meeting. While in Bentonville, Arkansas, Walmart workers protested outside of the company’s headquarters calling for an end to its attempt to silence workers.

In response Walmart has illegally disciplined or fired more than 60 Walmart workers. Workers refuse to be silenced and continue to call for change at the world’s largest private employer.

When a small number or Wal-Mart workers stand out in front of their place of employment and attempt to drive away customers, they can expect to be fired, The US has procedures for forming unions. Follow it. The rabble rousers who convinced these workers to do their wildcat strike are still employed by the union bosses and the poor workers are now unemployed and ineligible for unemployment insurance. This isn’t about the workers, but about the millions of dollars of dues for the union bosses that are not being collected. Follow the money.

Follow the money and it all seems to lead to the Waltons. Tell them to give you another raise.

      • floridanativee

Stop worrying about them and start making yourself more valuable to any employer, Worrying about them just makes you bitter and makes your situation worse.

      • Connie Lee

Oh, I’m not worried about the Walton’s in the least. And I have no objection to any business making a profit. But when the profits are obscene and made by paying below poverty wages to the point that their employees need government assistance just to eat, that I do have a problem with. We are not talking about umemployed bums. We are talking about people who have a job and are willing to work but can’t earn enough to live on. And in the long run, it’s bad for business too. Walmart is designed to cater to low income people. But when everything they make goes for food and rent and utilities they don’t have anything left to buy walmarts made in china junk. That is why Walmarts sales are down. It’s nothing but common sense which they seem to have exchanged for greed. People with no money don’t shop.

Two people working and progressing upwards at Wal-Mart can easily make nearly $45,000 in total (before the ObamaCare 29 hour week. Then all bets are off.). This can be a stepping stone to greater things. Nowhere does it say that one person working should be able to support a family of 4. It has taken 2 workers per family fo many decades and still does. If people have children they can’t support, it shouldn’t be at my expense.

providing they are both full time (40hr a week). however, Walmart hires almost all as part time, 25 hours and less a week. You need to check your facts

Wal-Mart like most companies will give great workers with great work ethic and great work habits a full time job in a heartbeat if they prove themselves. I do it and although I don’t know specifically about them, I know they did get so big by begin stupid about their employees.. The biggest headache for business folks is getting and keeping good employees. The duds come and go.

      • Connie Lee

you sound more and more like a paid walmart troll everytime you open your mouth…

      • floridanativee

Actually I type with my mouth closed. I will admit I do move my lips sometimes.

      • Connie Lee

Walmart has long ago stopped hiring full time employees for anything but management…instead what they do is hire full time and then when they need extra help for something give the part timers a few more hours ….in certain positions where skilled workers are needed, they still hire part time, work them full time hours for a few weeks, cut them a week and then back to full time hours again, but those positions are limited. ..that way they can avoid benefits. Don’t try to tell people who have been there done that what Walmart does, you just make yourself sound foolish and you convince no one…anyone who has dealt with walmart knows better

You know all of this from your short stint there.Amazing. I do know that employers are crying for good workers and will do much to keep them. I do.

      • Connie Lee

I suppose you could call five years a short stint.

You worked 5 years part time and never got a promotion or a full time offer. I would take a serious look at what you were doing wrong.

      • Connie Lee

No, I worked 5 years full time, and I didn’t want a promotion. If you had actually bothered to read what I wrote you would have seen that I said I didn’t want the aggravation of management, if I had I wouldn’t have sold my business. I wanted to leave all the headaches of being boss to someone else..and you would also have noticed that Walmart only hires part time these days. I started there the last year they were hiring full time employees. Only management is full time unless you were grandfatherd in. And the only way a person goes to full time is if they move up to management. Oh, by the way, the top yearly raise for a walmart worker is fifty cents an hour. One or two people in the store will get that on occasion just so no one can say no one does, the average is a quarter an hour, and a few get a whopping dime.

SO Wal-Mart fitted your needs perfectly. You wanted to stay on the bottom and must have liked it to stay 5 years. I never have hard and fast rules about raises. People should be paid on merit. If somebody is happy in a certain job and continues to produce the same, their pay should not go up any more than inflation. You have to produce more to be paid more. Promotions or extra responsibility is the way to achieve this. If you are a stock filler and keep on doing the same job at the same efficiency year after yea, you don’t deserve more money, If you come up with a better way to do it or become more efficient, then you should get more, It is up to the individual to do what is necessary to improve their worth to a company. Just being there doesn’t do it no matter what the union will tell you.
