Telling the Complete Story of 50 Years of Walmart

Posted on May 17, 2012 by jway

As Walmart celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, the company will undoubtedly tell a one-sided story of the impact it has on communities. We know this won’t be the complete story. As the largest private employer in the world, Walmart has impacted us all. The Walmart at 50 nationwide tour and website provides the rest of us with a chance to tell what fifty years of Walmart has truly meant in our lives and our communities.

The Huffington Post recently reported on the website and tour.

Along the way, team members have stopped to project their collected videos on the sides of Walmart buildings for as long as store officials have allowed…The road trip will hit several more cities before concluding next month in Bentonville, Ark., where Walmart will hold its shareholder meeting.

WalmartAt50 pools the stories of a diverse group of workers, customers and community members. You can hear their stories and share yours on the site. Stay tuned for more details as the Walmar at 50 tour rolls into Washington, DC .

Hard to believe the Huffington Post would complain about something being one sided. Wal-Mart paid a $1.09.share dividend today which beat the Wall Street Expectations. Lots of employees 401k are looking good now.

i love how much Wal Mart makes each year, but how much they pay their workers. Like the actual people that work, not the managers that walk around and ask you how much you have left and telling you that you have to stay later cause you couldn’t get the 11 hrs of work done in 8? this is Amarica now, and the goverment and big corparations will work us till we are dead in our grave they dont care about us they probably see it as “O well the world is over populated anyways” but what they are missing its not the rich that built this country into what it use to be it was us hardworking people mistreat us all you want but our roots will carry on as your money runs out i hope im here to see the day the hardworkers land on top and then it will be our turn to teach you a thing or two ( here’s 8.20 an hr now get this im possable amount of work done for me)

Whiners will never get ahead at Wal-Mart or any other business, When you can’t even spell “Amarica”, how do you expect to reap it’s benefits? You are responsible for your own success, not your emloyer. Do what is necessary to be an employee worth more and you will get it.

      • Mike

That’s “employer” not emloyer, you stupid paid off Walmart stooge!

How much does the Walmart criminal empire pay you to make comments in here.

Sorry, I was typing that on my Android with a virtual keyboard. Wal-Mart pays me nothing, but I would be happy to accept anything. Others on this forum do get paid by the union as they own the website site. They complain about Wal-Mart bitterly, but if Wal-Mart would give the union bosses money, they would be singing their praises. This union has been convicted of accepting money under the table for giving a favorable anti employee contract to a grocery store chain. I posted it here recently. Union officials went to the slammer for it. As long as you are acting as the grammar monitor, I might add that you should have ended your sentence with a ?.  Looks to me that you and Wal-Mart would be much better off if you no longer worked there.

I suspect that the response commenting on your spelling related to your attack on the individual who misspelled ‘America.” It always seems tacky to say its ok because I said it, but the other fellow is an idiot.

      • Finster

Who are you to criticize someone else’s spelling when you don’t even know the difference between “it’s” and “its”?

That was a huge years of service and success in dealing with marketing business. Walmart had even made it’s trademark on people who had constantly purchased their goods on this supermarket. It provides a wide range of goods and basic commodities. It’s a year of good service and quality.

We need to return to a culture of self-reliance and nationally produced goods. If we wan to wholly embrace the lazy Wal-Mart “import Chinese” culture, then why don’t we simply disband our Constitution and request membership as China’s newest province?
