From Reuters via Financial Express:

Bharti Enterprises is conducting market research into whether to use the Wal-Mart brand name in a retail network with the US giant that it expects to finalise this month, a business paper said on Friday.

Bharti and Wal-Mart Stores Inc plan a joint venture for a cash-and-carry and back-end supply chain in India, where the $300 billion retail industry is dominated by small shop owners. Wal-Mart is also in talks to provide technology support for Bharti’s front-end retail operations.

“If the research says Bharti Wal-Mart is preferred, then we’ll go with Bharti Wal-Mart. If the research says it doesn’t matter, then possibly, it doesn’t matter,” Bharti Chairman Sunil Mittal told the paper.

Mittal and Wal-Mart Vice Chairman Mike Duke met government officials last week, and Mittal told the Mint that legal agreements should be reached within weeks.
